October 7, 2015 – October Meeting

Historical author Margaret Mallory

returns in October with lots of news about her awards for her Douglas Legacy series and a new story about to be released.

Another stunning cover and another awesome Scottish story…

Mallory.2015.10.07

THE DOUGLAS LEGACY
The Douglas sisters, beauties all, are valuable pawns in their family’s bitter struggle to control the Scottish Crown. But when their enemies strike, each Douglas lass will find she’s been left to face them alone.

Claimed by the Highlander
Lady Sybil Douglas’s fall from court favorite to royal enemy is swift after her brothers are charged with treason and flee Scotland. When a strange Highland warrior appears claiming they are bound by a marriage contract, she’s desperate enough to ride off with him. She’ll worry later about how to escape the wedding.
The last thing Rory MacKenzie needs is a pampered Lowlander wife. He traveled to Edinburgh in the hope of dissolving the ill-begotten marriage contract. But now that the Douglas men have abandoned his would-be bride to danger, he’s honor-bound to protect her.
Sybil and Rory fight scorching passion and other dangers on their journey to the MacKenzie castle, where murder and intrigue await them. When everything is at risk, will they trust each other and their unexpected love?

You can read more about Margaret here.

September 2, 2015 – September Meeting

Rakes on Tour…what a great name for a historical series. And this month, the author of that series visits us.

Bronwyn Scott, author of over 30 historical and regency romance novels for Harlequin Books, is here this month to chat with us. Bronwyn is a local PNW’er, but it appears her writing heart is in Great Britain. Perfect for us Regency lovers!

Here’s the specs on the first two books in her Rakes on Tour series. (Have I mentioned I LOVE that series title/idea?)

Rake Most Likely to Rebel

Scott.2015.09.02a
The art of fencing, like the art of love, requires three important skills:
1. Anticipating your partner’s every move, working them into the exact position you desire.
2. Being completely attuned to each other’s bodies.
3. Absolute dedication, no matter how many hours are spent sweating it out.
Viscount Amersham has come to Paris to prove his skill with the blade. But feisty Alyssandra Leodegrance is not the opponent he was expecting! As expert swordplay leads to sizzling sensuality, it’s difficult to say who will win…and what they will claim as their prize!
Rakes on Tour
Outrageous hell-raisers let loose in Europe!

Rake Most Likely to Thrill

Scott.2015.09.02b
A rakish thrill-seeker…
Archer Crawford has come to Siena to compete in its notorious horse race—only daredevils need apply! But on his first night, he meets the beautiful Elisabeta di Nofri, a young noblewoman whose love of thrill-seeking is second only to Archer’s.
A woman longing for more…
Elisabeta is determined to savor one last taste of freedom before an unwelcome marriage is forced upon her. But one night of wild desire isn’t enough. And Archer and Elisabeta will have to risk everything if they’re to win what they truly want…

You can read more about Bronwyn here.

August 5, 2015 – August Meeting

UPDATED: Unfortunately, something has come up and Darlene can’t make the meeting, but the lovely Kate Breslin will be showcasing her stories for us.

Kate writes inspirational fiction, so far mostly historical. Her second novel, Not By Sight, releases August 4th. That’s the day before our August meeting! So this is an awesome time to have her visit us. Here’s what the story is about:

FINAL layout_Breslin_Not by Sight.indd
With Britain caught up in WWI, Jack Benningham, heir to the Earl of Stonebrooke, has declared himself a conscientious objector. Instead, he secretly works for the Crown by tracking down German spies on British soil, his wild reputation and society status serving as a foolproof cover.
Blinded by patriotism and concern for her brother on the front lines, wealthy suffragette Grace Mabry will do whatever it takes to assist her country’s cause. When she sneaks into a posh London masquerade ball to hand out white feathers of cowardice, she never imagines the chain of events she’ll set off when she hands a feather to Jack.
And neither of them could anticipate the extent of the danger and betrayal that follows them–or the faith they’ll need to maintain hope.

You can read more about Kate here.

July 2, 2015 – Gathering

As you’ve probably seen from Ursula’s emails, there’s no speaker for the July meeting and some people aren’t able to make it. So this month’s meeting will be a relaxed chit-chat get together for anyone interested.

Since I don’t have a speaker to talk about on this month’s blog, I thought I’d showcase some of the fun we’ve had in the past. Many thanks to those who’ve sent me these pictures. If any of you have pictures you’d like me to load up on the website, send them to me at laurieryanauthor@gmail.com.

June 3, 2015 – June Meeting

Welcome back, Janet Oakley!

Historical author Janet Oakley returns in June with more rich glimpses into past times in the Pacific Northwest in her memoir novels. As well, her website shows she’s expanding her territory. The Jossing Affair is set in Norway toward the end of World War II, and Saddle Road, a crime mystery, is set in Maui.

Timber Rose, the prequel to Tree Soldier is now available on Amazon. Here’s what it’s about:

1907. Women climbing mountains in skirts. Loggers fighting for the eight hour day. The forests and mountains of the North Cascades are alive with progress, but not everyone is on board.
Caroline Symington comes from a prominent family in Portland, Oregon. Much to her family’s dismay, she’s more interested in hiking outdoors and exploring the freedoms of a 1907’s New Woman than fancy parties and money. She plans to marry on her own terms, not her parents. When she falls in love with Bob Alford, an enterprising working-class man who loves the outdoors as much as she, little does she know how sorely her theories will be tested. Betrayed by her jealous sister, Caroline elopes, a decision that causes her father to disown her.
The young couple moves to a rugged village in the North Cascade Mountains where Caroline begins a new life as the wife of a forest ranger. Though she loves her life in the mountains as a wife and mother, her isolation and the loss of her family is a challenge. As she searches for meaning among nature, she’s ushered along by a group of like-minded women and a mysterious, mountain man with a tragic past.

You can read more about Janet here.

May 6, 2015 – May Meeting

May brings flowers and sunshine (hopefully) and author

Marilee Brothers

to Round Table Readers.

Marilee lives in Eastern Washington and writes both adult and young adult fiction. Her adult fiction spans both historical and contemporary romantic suspense. Her young adult works are quirky, fun, and tinged with paranormal magic.

With such an eclectic writing style, I’m sure it’ll be a fun May meeting with Marilee. Showcasing one of her adult stories, here’s the information about The Rock and Roll Queen of Bedlam (great title!):

Brothers2015.05.06

Leggy, karaoke-signing Allegra Thome spends her days teaching dysfunctional teens and her nights with wealthy new boyfriend, Michael. The rough patch following Allegra’s divorce is over, and life is grand. But when Allegra lands in the middle of a drug bust and meets Sloan, a rough-around-the-edges DEA agent and, later that day, a kid from her class disappears, things quickly head south. Sloan, who has the tact of a roadside bomb, is attracted to Allegra and alienates Michael. To make matters worse, nobody seems to care that Allegra’s student, Sara Stepanek, is missing. Allegra’s search for Sara becomes a race against time with dead bodies piling up and her own life in peril.

You can read more about Marilee here.
